Hamas has always been in news for such inciting comments. Al Aksa, the television channel owned by them broadcasts videos of rocket launcher teams and insults for Israel and its leaders. Such inciting comments are banned but the Hamas does not feel any restraint while commenting on the Jews and making other kind of public statements. They openly condemn the Jew and wish to capture the land occupied by the Jews to build a Palestinian Islamic State where Israel stands now.

Well, the Israel-Palestine issue is too delicate to be burdened by the weight of any conclusions. So, the most a layman can do is to keep a tab on the situation and analyze the activities (physical as well as verbal) of both Israel and Hamas.

Clinton raised the issue of race and was challenged by Obama as he stated that American should speak only on racial issues, yet the question remains as to what is the future of the vast majority of underclass black people who fail to finish school and are imprisoned before they reach the age of forty.

Martin Luther King will be memorized by the churches on the back drop of Obama contesting the presidential elections in America, but what Obama and the many other black who hold offices of high rank do for the these black who continue to live in deprived conditions. America is one of the most developed nations in the world and it is hard to believe that a country so liberal in outlook can have racial issues simmering underneath the glitzy and fast life of Americans, where everything seems to be perfect and in harmony. Presidents are concerned about the other nations of the world and their governments but have been ignoring an important issue right in the midst of their own country.

The blacks are divided; the upper and the middle class get educated, get jobs and hold offices of profit and there remains this enormous underclass which is on a stand still with little hope of their advancement. With these issues under its lap, America surely needs a reality check before it ventures out to sort the problem of nations around the world.

With the media negating Clinton’s change to secure a win and commenting that her campaign is over, Clinton’s aides and campaigners are working fervently to invalidate the idea that Clinton has virtually no chances of winning. With 10 contests still ahead, Clinton remains hopeful of pushing her votes in the remaining contests commencing from April 22 with Pennsylvania.

Clinton, along with Obama, is all set to woe the 800 super delegates who have a free will to choose anyone. With none of the candidates able to secure a 2,024 delegate needed, it will be the super delegates who will decide the fate of both the democratic candidates. The 800 super delegates will be a key to Clinton securing the democratic nomination for the presidential elections to be held in November this year. What we can do is to wait and watch who emerges as a winner in the long run.

It is the ordinary American that is the victim of housing foreclosures that forces them to lose their homes, employment is scare as many continue to lose jobs due to the downturn of the local industries. Michigan is facing a mini-recession with its car industry collapsing and people losing jobs, 40 states have seen an increase in the want for a food stamp and the numbers have risen by 10% in more than 6 states which include Arizona, Maryland and Florida, the home of most of the Hollywood celebrities. Food stamps are actually electronic cards that can be swiped to buy food. Prices of food items have risen so people cannot buy like they used to even with the use of food stamps.

A country which spends millions on its military forces to liberate countries from tyrant rulers, a country having nuclear powers, a country that pledges to eradicate terrorism from the world, a country having military troops in all parts of the world; such a country facing its greatest recession clearly indicates that while the government is busy looking after the world, they fail to look after their own countrymen who suffer due to employment while the best brains around the world find jobs in US.

It is time for the upcoming government to recognize the crisis in their own country before they implement their foreign policies across the globe.

It was a late afternoon of June when I was sitting in the courtyard of the primary school in Nandigram which was now home to many homeless inhabitants who had been driven away from their houses. Some had voluntarily given up their abodes; fear was the cause.

The once peaceful village in West Bengal, home to many farmers, was now a battle ground where the communist were seizing land from the farmers- their only source of income.

The playing field of the school sheltered old women, children who were busy making merry in their usual recreational matter, unaware of the danger that was slowly moving towards them. Some ladies cooked rice in the corner of the field. Rice was the only source to kill hunger; it was being served for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an occasional chilly and onion thrown in for a change of taste.

I knew what will be served for the next meal.

A woman sitting near the cooking place seemed to be lost in a world of her own as her eyes senselessly followed the kids running around in the field. The agony was evident from the tears that were about to break shores and allow the salty waters to gush out violently but something held them tightly behind the shore.

The month of June usually welcomed monsoons but this year the skies were quite. It was end of the month and the rains had not paid a visit to the farmers who relied heavily on them both for their crops and to calm the intense heat of summer’s scorching sun. When normal life prevailed in the parish, the first showers were anxiously awaited and celebrated with community gathering and offerings to God.
This year no one seemed to be bothered except the old lady who always sat by the door in the passageway which led to the classrooms. She gazed at the skies all day long as if the rains will come and wash away all her sufferings. Somehow, I had started to believe in her faith.

The sky was calm since the morning but I found the old lady restless since the morning, she had kept aside some uncooked rice in a broken porcelain bowl, the same way she had done for years to prepare the offerings to welcome the rain. Every now and then she counted something on her fingers and fixed her gaze again on the sky. My focus on the agonized woman near the cooking place was disturbed when a kid stopped chasing his friend to notice what has fallen on his face. It was followed by another drop and the sky thundered its blessing on the anguished hearts. The children had found yet another reason to be amused. The carefree little souls danced as the tiny trinkets of joy bestowed their affection upon them.

I continued to watch the woman as she found camouflage in the showers when the shores finally broke away, unnoticed and unattended. She continued to stare futilely at the children enjoying the drizzle unaffected by the solace the drizzle had brought along. She used it to bare her soul. Tears mingled with the rain.

The old lady had known that her delight was on its way. She was waiting apprehensively ready with her offering. For the first time the old lady smiled, the pleasure was apparent on the wrinkled lines of her face. She stood up and welcomed the first showers. She walked in the middle of the field, closed her eyes, opened her arms and let the tiny drops with healing powers touch her every wound. She stood there in the midst surrounded by joyous children.

The tiny trinkets became a source of joy for some; while giving freedom to the pain hidden within a soul and becoming a healer for the one who had relied on it for generations.

May each spirit find their reason every time the heavens bestow their blessing upon the human soul.
